Just a short note to let you know we are both fine before we jump into our adventures which have brought us to our current location near Winterhaven CA. We are maintaining social distance from all the other campers on 3,000 acres of BLM property. Perfect place-lots of space, lots of sun.
Well it’s been quite a while since we got our macerator pump fixed in Bakersfield and started on the road again heading for the Imperial Dam LTVA (Long Term Visitor Area) in Winterhaven CA just north of Yuma AZ when we got a call from Karen Leffler, my partner of 32 years, who knew we were headed her direction. Karen recently suffered from several heart attacks and surgeries involving 3 stents & a pacemaker/defibrillator & many weeks in hospital and rehabilitation care. Karen’s wife, Abby, needed to be away from their home for 3 weeks so they were going to hire someone through a care service as Karen could not be left alone yet. So Karen asked Kae & me if we could come be with her & they would pay us instead of a stranger so we said yes and made a detour to Seal Beach which is just south of Long Beach. We had the pleasure of taking Karen to all of her doctor & acupuncture appointments. We took walks every day to build her strength & managed to see some movies too. It turned out to be a wonderful experience for all of us & the generous payment helped us catch up on the repair expenses we had incurred. A win win for all of us!
Karen & Abby live in Leisure World which is pretty amazing. I was impressed with the amount of conveniences that are provided in this community and the beautifully maintained grounds. There are stunningly beautiful trees, each with a tag, which identifies the tree. There are about 5,000 units & 8000 people living in this small city. It’s a short drive to downtown Seal Beach which is a lovely, small town with a Nevada City vibe.
Everyone who lives in Leisure World shows their individuality by planting beautiful flowers or hedges or more trees or, in Karen’s case, bonsais. It was a treat to walk around with Karen and take in all the beauty & color.
