Bo's Journal #6 Tetons & Wyoming

Le GrandeTetons, now I hope all of you know how that translates! If not ask the first Frenchman you meet. These are some more of those amazing mountains that jump straight up from the flat prairies and grasslands overpowering the senses. I think they are wonderful; you can smell and sense the primitiveness. The wildness of the area and the horizon reminds you all of the time how majestic the mountains are and how small we are.

Jackson Hole was no big woof, okay if you like cows, rodeo and jeans, but I can pass through just fine, thanks. Traveling south and east in the wide open spaces of Wyoming actually turned out to be more interesting than any of the three of us thought possible and there were some truly sweet spots along the way such as the Migratory Bird Sanctuary near Jackson Hole. I got to watch and smell, but not chase, a group of birds the likes of which I had never seen before, like Trumpeter Swans. They are classified as one of the most endangered but here they have a flock that winters over year after year because they are so well taken care of.

We drove on through hundreds of miles of prairie turned farmland with vistas of wheat and hay and wild grasses with the Wind River Indian Reservation to the north and east of us. That was some of the most prosperous farm and ranch land we had seen on any of the reservations we passed through or stayed on. Small, quiet towns like Dubois, Lander, Crowheart, Burns, Rawlins, Saratoga and Continental. We crossed the Continental Divide four more times in this state, now making 12 times we have crossed. We were in the Medicine Bow National Forest where we really could see the forest beginning to change into fall for the first time this far south. There waterfalls, great fences and long views of some really pristine beauty. We found another sweet forest road and plunked the Pod for the night.

On to Laramie next, again not much for my taste except the lunch the Gals and I shared and some really “Big Sky” moments. Forgive me Montana, but you could certainly share that moniker with your neighbor because she can rival you anytime for skys!

Leaving Laramie, we dropped due south into Colorado on our way to Denver to visit Monta and Don for a week, but first a little side trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. I’ll update in the next journal, so until then “Happy Tails to You”.
