#1-Natural New Hampshire & Verdant Vermont

Yes, as you can see we decided that Bo’s Journal should forever remain Bo’s Journal. So we renamed the blog to honor our continued travels as we two strongly hold the belief that it truly is …”the journey and not the destination” that defines how you live this human experience. So we will definitely continue to see and record the natural beauty of the pristine places in this glorious country.

Our goal had been to capture as much of the fall foliage of New England as we possibly could and to record its splendor for you to enjoy. I think Cokie’s photography more than lived up to the task. I have seen photos and articles all my life about this annual display of nature at her finest and I mostly believed those photos were enhanced or doctored to some extent. Well, I now know this to be false – the colors, light, variety and intensity are all real!! Sometimes so real your senses can not quite absorb all it. Superlatives are actually inadequate. Cokie and I found small phrases, besides ‘wow’ and ‘oh my God’, would slip into our thoughts and expressions. “Corridors of color”, “driving through candle glow”, “trees making their own sunsets”,” floods of foliage” were a few inadequate attempts. So mostly we’ll let the photos we took along these scenic byways sort of speak for themselves as we followed the ‘yellow leaf road’:

The North Road just east of Gorham, NH, a pretty little loop

Hwys 16, south from Gorham to Conway, on part of the White Mountains Scenic Drive, along the Androscoggin and Peabody Rivers

Hwy 112, west, across New Hampshire, from Conway to Lincoln and Woodville on the Kancamagus Highway along the Swift River and the Ammonoosuc River

Hwy 302, 232 and 2 along the Wells and Winooski Rivers in Vermont, just for fun

Hwy 100 from near Waterbury, VT south to Wilmington through the Green Mountains. There were actually some parts that were so cute we could hardly ‘bear ‘it! Then there was that strange moose person at the Vermont Country Store!

So, there you have it! Pictures are truly worth a thousand words. If you come up with any inspirational phrases, please pass them on because we ran out of superlatives at about Bethel, Maine!!

Our next adventure was in Massachusetts through the villages and beauty of the Birkshire Mountains, then on to Connecticut and a visit with a friend. Lots to share so stay tuned!!
