Another day in Amish Country in northern Indiana was spent at Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Museum in Shipshewana. Personally I don’t remember the Hudson automobile but it seemed to be sort of a big thing for Kae who has her own memories and it was a fun little thing to send to her long-time friend, Katherine Hudson. I will say those rumble seats and pickups sure look like they were built for “let’s go for a ride” canine critters like me!

For Cokie’s “not quite as old as me birthday” the Gal Pals went to see one of her favorite musicals, The Music Man. Performed by a talented group of regional theater actors and presented in the Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres in Nappanee, it was quite a fun event. This is a relocated, 60 foot tall and 60 foot diameter round barn built in 1911. It has become the heart of this thriving musical theater company for the past 21 years. Many Broadway musicals are performed here each season but Plain and Fancy, the story of Jacob Yoder’s Amish family, is the centerpiece. It has now been performed more than 3400 times by this company along with eight other musicals composed by Joseph Stein. Unfortunately the Ladies didn’t get tickets for any of the performances of that show, but they say they may just have to go back for another chance. www.AmishAcres.com
Now personally I don’t understand this celebration thing you two-leggeds do every year when you cause the world around us to explode into huge noises and crazy light shows. Having been shot as a rambunctious youngster I am convinced most of the time that someone is after me with another gun. One good thing was that at least I wasn’t the only canine scaredy cat. My 130 pound friend Cody, from the rig next door, was even more frightened than I was and had to be tranquilized for a few days. So after my friends reassured me I was not about to die, I settled down in the protective Pod and they oohed and awed their way through three nights of fireworks displays in the lovely campground we were staying in. I think they had fun and Cokie was pretty proud of her night shots.
I, for one would go back to this gentle corner of the country at the drop of a bone, anytime! We all loved the serenity, gentleness, cleanliness and overall beauty of Amish Country. Needless to say we did not want to leave this spot, but the open road was beckoning and we must move on. We exited Indiana due north and headed straight for cooler climes toward Lake Michigan because the Gals promised me a swim in cool, clear, fresh water. See you there!
